A planned peaceful rally in support of striking steelworkers at IOC has been postponed due to bad weather.
The rally was to be held at 5 p.m. today (Thursday, April 5). Organizers at the district labor council say the event will now take place Monday April 9, 5 p.m. starting at the intersection of Avalon Drive and Route 500.
Weather is the main factor in cancelling the event for today. At 9 a.m.- it was -20 with a wind chill of -34. Currently there is snow and blowing snow, another 10-15 centimeters of snow is forecasted for today with gusts of winds from 40-50, for most of the day. Wind chills are expected to be -35.
Safety is also a big consideration in moving the event to Monday.
The rally, was planned to support striking Steelworkers at the Iron ore company of Canada, who went on strike early March 27.
The union objects the company’s demands to use temporary workers, the company says it has made a fair offer.
