Emergency exercise at Wabush Airport today

The Wabush Airport runway is currently under reconstruction this summer. A Transport Canada spokeswoman said safety at the Wabush Airport is one of Transport Canada’s top priorities and the Government of Canada is demonstrating its commitment to the Western Labrador region through this significant investment in the reconstruction of the runway.

WABUSH, N.L. – An emergency training exercise will be held at the Wabush Airport this afternoon, June 5.

The exercise will test emergency procedures and train and educate personnel from various organizations and agencies including municipal authorities, police, air carriers, and hospital and ambulance services.

According to an advisory from Transport Canada, there will be increased activity at the airport, but there is no risk to the public.

The exercise is expected to last approximately two hours.
