LABRADOR CITY, N.L. — The Labrador West Youth Football Association is heading into its fourth season.
This year the organization has 12 coaches, quarterbacked by president Mike Zseder, and affiliated with Football Newfoundland, the provincial body working to grow the sport throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Labrador West group has been getting some practice in at the Labrador Arena. As soon as weather permits, they’ll move outside for practices and games.
Currently there are 40 children, in two divisions. The novice division is for children aged six-10, playing once a week. The junior division includes 11-15 year olds, playing twice a week. This organization is for boys and girls.
The coaches teach basic football fundamentals and blocking techniques, as well as route running. They also teach the necessary techniques to allow athletes to give and receive the body contact that is a significant part of football.
