Lab. City asking CCL to declare Labrador Flag Day

Labrador City is urging the Combined Councils of Labrador to implement an official Labrador Flag Day.
Coun. Dick Hepditch noted the idea for an annual day came from a resident who thought it would be a good way to remind Labradorians of their roots.
In his resolution to council, he noted the Labrador flag is a proudly recognized symbol of Labrador's rich heritage, resourceful people and magnificent landscape.
People across the region, he pointed out, show their affection for the symbol by flying it in their communities, incorporating it into their art and he said the flag is a reminder of the region's individual cultures and vision for a stronger brighter future.
According to Mr. Hepditch, the Labrador flag was officially implemented March 31, 1974 and he'd like to see the first Labrador Flag Day go ahead March 31, 2009.
Council approved the resolution Feb. 19 and it will now go before the Combined Councils of Labrador at its annual general meeting in Port Hope Simpson March 12-15.
Mr. Hepditch expects the delegates to approve the resolution and hopes the flag day will be an opportunity to showcase Labrador's history, land and accomplishments.
