Letter to the Editor -
Dear Editor:
This may interest the paper and the readers.
This past Saturday, (Nov 14), I went to the Carol Lake Shopping Centre. As with most Saturdays, the parking lot was particularly busy with lots of shoppers.
What surprised me was the parking situation. I noticed in four or five parking spaces being used there where three vehicles were parked in line so that one of the vehicles was being blocked in. (see pictures)
I am surprised that anyone would be inconsiderate enough to block somebody in. If they believe their purchase is only going to take a minute, it won't when the lot is that busy. Have we become so lazy that we will not walk the extra 50 - 100 feet?
How would those drivers feel if THEY were the ones blocked in and had to wait for another driver to move their vehicle so they could drive away?
While this blocking of vehicles could be nothing more than a frustrating inconvenience for the driver of the trapped vehicle, what would happen if that person had to leave immediately for an emergency? I wonder if there could be 'unlawful confinement charges" laid?
There is no way those drivers who parked in this manner can blame it on the "fire lane" because there were plenty of available spaces in the main part of the lot. It may have just meant a few extra steps. If someone is picking up items, they can usually pull up to the door to load the item into the vehicle anyway.
The Carol Lake Shopping Centre is not the only place this happens but the majority of it does appear that way. Food for thought.
Regards
Sean Hiscock, Labrador City
